Senegalese authorities have announced the arrest of a Cameroonian, believed to be wanted for crimes outside the country. A geological engineer, the man (unnamed) was initially arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) by an order of the Senegalese public prosecutor.
Having fled into Senegal where he invested his money, he secured a job as a geological engineer and was based in Senegal’s gold mining region of Sabodala, in the south-east of the country.
The authorities now believe this was a calculated move to ensure staying away from the prying eyes of Interpol, which had been after him for drug trafficking.
Unfortunately for him, his luck ran out when the National Unit of Financial Information Processing (CENTIF) in Senegal finally pinned him for money laundering. Investigations went on to reveal that he was in fact within the scope of an international arrest warrant for drug trafficking.
He has since been charged and placed in custody.
